Fantôme

Official name:Dawnoday Phantom of the Opera
Call name:Fantôme
Breed:Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie)
Date of birth:August 3, 2004

This little girl, from Dawnoday Shetland Sheepdogs, joined our family on October 17, 2004.

Our new puppy
Although it was love at first sight (who wouldn't fall in love with a face like that?), we weighed this decision carefully. We read up on Shelties, spoke to Sheltie owners, and checked out the kennel. Then we adopted her.

We were originally planning to call her Phantom, but it turns out she responds better to the French "Fantôme".

Day 1 (Oct 17 2004)
Although Fantôme was nervous when she came home, she quickly settled down and became interested in her new surroundings. Here she is getting acquainted with Mrs Kitty Fantastico.

Although the kitten is twice her size, later that day Fantôme showed her Sheltie heritage by trying to herd her.

Fantôme Day 3
Fantôme is settling in well, and loves to play in her pen outside (loose leaves and twigs don't stand a chance!)

She's only 11 weeks old today, but she is already well on her way to being housebroken, and warns us when it's time to take her out.

Of course, taking pictures of a puppy at play is like catching the wind.

Most of my pictures ended up looking like these ones:

What could be cutter than one puppy? How about two puppies?

Here is Fantôme meeting Farley, a miniature poodle who lives on our street.

We were advised to socialize our Sheltie as soon as possible, so we've been taking her to Bruce Pit, a popular dog walking area, every chance we get.

Fantôme showed immediate interest in everyone she met (human and canine), and is a big hit with everyone.

It's important to socialize puppies early. Lately, Fantôme has been enjoying play dates with Luke, a 12-week-old Rottweiler.

Here's Luke in the universal "play" position. Fantôme & Luke - play position

Another favourite game - let's chase each other. Fantôme & Luke chasing each other

Now who can resist a face like that? Not us, obviously!

Fantôme is six months old now, and already
enrolled in Agility and Obedience classes.

She's getting her adult coat (though she's still pure puppy at heart.)

We visited Fantôme's kennel, Dawnoday Shetland Sheepdogs, and she had a chance to play with her sister Tiffany.

Fantôme at 10 months

Fantôme is 10 months old now, and has reached her full size (she's about 14 pounds). Who would have thought she'd end up with this much coat? (And she's due for some grooming!)

She remains as playful as ever, and loves spending time with us playing and training. Training is a charm, as she's a very fast learner!
